Andrea Christina Caymo-Kauhanen

Andrea Christina Caymo-Kauhanen is a senior policy professional with 18+ years of experience in diplomacy, regulatory compliance, banking, and stakeholder engagement. She currently serves as Executive Director of the Malaya Initiative Foundation, a US nonprofit organization focused on advancing educational opportunities in the Philippines.  

She is a former diplomat, serving for more than a decade with the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), where she held positions including Director at the Office of International Economic Relations and Vice Consul at the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu.   

As Director at the DFA, Andrea shaped national policy on trade, investment, digital economy, peaceful use of nuclear energy, and technology transfer and supported commercial initiatives across 90+ diplomatic missions. She served on four (4) national policy boards, including the National Innovation Council-Executive Technical Board, Tourism Promotions Board, Philippine Statistics Authority Board, and the Inter-Agency Investment Promotion Coordination Committee. She combines deep understanding of multilateral trade frameworks and regulatory environments with practical experience advising businesses on cross-border transactions.  

 Andrea holds a BS in Business Economics from the University of the Philippines-Diliman and a Graduate Certificate in International Security Studies from Harvard Extension School.   

Her research for the PTP Fellowship focuses on strengthening the regulatory and policy framework to support US-Philippines cooperation in semiconductor supply chain security. Andrea’s unique combination of diplomatic experience, economic policy expertise, and deep understanding of both American and Philippine systems positions her to develop actionable recommendations that advance bilateral technology cooperation.
