Akira Igata is a Project Lecturer and heads the Economic Security Intelligence Laboratory (ESIL) at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST), the University of Tokyo.
He holds affiliations with several international think tanks and policy institutions, including: the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), Washington DC – Adjunct Senior Fellow; Pacific Forum (PF), Honolulu – Senior Advisor; Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), Canberra – Senior Fellow; National Security College (NSC), Australian National University (ANU), Canberra – Expert Associate; European Values Center for Security Studies (EVC), Prague – Global Advisory Board Member; and the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC), London – Non-Executive Director.
He advises the Japanese government, bureaucracy, and the private sector in various capacities. His research focuses are on economic security, foreign information manipulation and influence, and international politics in the Indo-Pacific.
