Director for Regional Affairs Rob York instructed six emerging Indian journalists—five from the Chennai consular district and one from Delhi—on fundamentals of news writing, on pitching news stories, but also on ethical issues surrounding journalism and AI, as well as recognizing disinformation. A professional journalist from India’s own The Print newspaper provided insights on covering international affairs. Participants were given the opportunity to draft pitches to share with SPAN, the magazine published by the US Embassy in India and visited a Chennai-area humanitarian site that has prospered through the support of the US Embassy, in the hopes of fostering a new generation of reporters who understand the importance and value of the US-India partnership.
