About the Panel
This public panel is focused on bringing insights on foundational and game-changing technologies to an industry audience. It will explore cybersecurity in three contexts: within the Japanese automobile industry, for autonomous and connected vehicles, and in relation to flying drones. Providing insights from industry, engineering, and academia in Japan and the United States, it promises to be a dynamic session on critical topics for our future. Participants will leave with a better understanding of US and Japanese thinking on autonomous vehicles, including their legal and security challenges as well as benefits.

This session is available for participants who would like to stay after the formal program concludes for an opportunity to chat with the speakers in a more casual format. Speakers will join different Zoom meeting rooms for discussion with participants (links will be shared via chat near the end of the formal program).
About the Speakers
Mihoko Matsubara is Chief Cybersecurity Strategist, NTT Corporation, Tokyo, being responsible for cybersecurity thought leadership. She previously worked at the Japanese Ministry of Defense before her MA at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington DC on Fulbright. She served on Japanese government’s cybersecurity R&D policy committee between 2014 and 2018. Mihoko is a prolific writer and has published articles from the Council on Foreign Relations, Lawfare, New America, the RUSI Journal. She is Adjunct Fellow at Pacific Forum and Associate Fellow at the Henry Jackson Society.
Souichirou Kozuka (Ph.D. in Law (Tokyo)) is professor of law at Gakushuin University (Tokyo). He specializes in commercial law generally, and law of commercial space and of artificial intelligence in particular. His recent publication in Japan is titled “The Era of AI and Law”, and one of his recent journal article is “A governance framework for the development and use of artificial intelligence: lessons from the comparison of Japanese and European initiatives” (published in Uniform Law Review). Prof. Kozuka served as co-chair of the Space Law Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA) in 2016-17.
Simon Saito Nielsen is a leading expert in the drone industry. He is the founder and former CEO of recently acquired Ctrl Me Robotics, Inc., a multirotor drone technology company that serviced some of the world’s largest brands. Simon’s passion for complex technology and simple design stems from his experience in consumer product design and his undergraduate study of mechanical and aerospace engineering at USC. As an internationally sought-after speaker and mentor for drone startups, Simon promotes innovative and ethical use of drones. @SimonSaito
