Hana Soma

Hana Soma is a Master of Public Policy in Global Affairs candidate at the Yale University Jackson School of Global Affairs, focusing her studies on a wide range of themes in diplomacy, including US-Japan security relations in the Indo-Pacific sphere. Prior to attending Yale, Hana worked in the International Trade Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, in the area of multilateral economic diplomacy. She was involved in Japan’s contributions to various international trade-related fora and developing economic diplomacy and economic security policy. Hana received an MPP from the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Public Policy, where she studied the practical aspects of policymaking across a breadth of policy areas in Japan, graduating as Outstanding Student. She received a bachelor’s degree in International Relations with first-class honors at King’s College London in its Department of War Studies, where she pursued a multidisciplinary approach consisting of studying international relations theory, political thought and ethics, alongside security strategy.
