Harshna Charan is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Sciences at the Fiji National University in the Fiji Islands. She earned her PhD from Tohoku University in Japan, where she studied the abiotic effects, such as temperature, on edible seaweeds like Aonori and Hijiki. This research enhanced her expertise and established lasting connections between Japan and the Pacific, particularly Fiji. Currently, she is involved in climate change adaptation, focusing on its impacts on women’s security, especially those reliant on marine ecosystems for their livelihoods in Fiji. In addition to adaptation, she works on building resiliency in coastal communities through nature-based solutions.
