The growing risk of WMD proliferation means that future security specialists must be well acquainted with the many dimensions of this issue. The Pacific Forum, as secretariat for the U.S. Committee of the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific (USCSCP), has for three years chaired a CSCAP study group on “Countering the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction in the Asia Pacific” that is working to raise regional awareness, suggest ways to promote nonproliferation efforts, and is writing a handbook and action plan for regional governments and institutions.
