Advance Gender Equality in the Indo-Pacific Region

Honolulu, Hawaii – August 23, 2023 — The United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) Office of Women, Peace and Security delivered a transformative event focused on advancing gender perspectives in the Indo-Pacific region. The event, the Indo-Pacific Regional Military Gender Advisor Course, took place from August 14 to August 25 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The course, designed to foster inclusive leadership and strategic planning, featured distinguished guest speakers and experts in the field of women, peace, and security. Attendees engaged in discussions surrounding the critical role of gender perspectives in regional peace and security efforts.

Valeria Villasenor-Bruyere, Pacific Forum’s Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Program Manager, was invited to participate in a dynamic panel titled “International Organizations and Civil Society Actors.” During her engaging session, she highlighted, “In the region, our partners’ progress in WPS issues and women’s integration is an ongoing journey of shared learning.”

The collaboration between the INDOPACOM Office of Women, Peace and Security and Pacific Forum exemplifies the commitment to strengthening regional cooperation on gender and security issues. This event marks another milestone in the collective effort to create a more inclusive and equitable Indo-Pacific community.
