Pacific Forum is committed to identifying, developing, and engaging the next generation of Indo-Pacific security leaders. For over 20 years, our Next Generation initiatives have equipped aspiring experts, scholars, and officials with the tools, networks, and opportunities to contribute to policy on the region’s most pressing challenges.
Young Leaders Program: Pacific Forum’s flagship Next Generation initiative engages emerging experts (ages 24–35) in senior-level policy dialogues worldwide. With an alumni network of several thousand, Young Leaders participate in discussions at the Center for Global Security Research at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, attend the Asia Pacific Roundtable and CSCAP General Conferences, and benefit from a dedicated publication platform and global city chapters.
Asia Pacific Leadership Initiative (APAL): Supported by the Takitani Foundation, APAL connects younger Hawaii-based participants (ages 18–22) to Indo-Pacific issues. Cohort members meet monthly with senior Pacific Forum staff and regional experts, conduct research tying Hawaii to regional dynamics, and participate in international study trips.
